Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Tweeps Aren’t Feeling DJ Sbu’s Apologies Over Vendor Video
Mofaya, more problems!
ICYDK, DJ Sbu caught a lot of heat after a TikTok video of him interacting with a vendor went viral over the weekend.
In the video, the musician/entrepreneur is seen chilling in his car as he calls over a vendor who’s selling cold drinks and water. He offers the vendor R200, but when he asks him if he has Mofaya (Sbu’s energy drink) and the vendor answers in the negative, the “Lengoma” hitmaker withdraws his money.
“You don’t have Mofaya? You’re losing R200. What type of a hustler is this?” he’s heard telling the vendor.
This angered Mzansi Twitter/X something fierce, prompting Sbu to tweet out an apology on Sunday, 17 November:
The following day, he posted a clip of himself giving the vendor some packs of Mofaya to sell:
This hardly appeased his followers, who reckoned that this whole publicity stunt (that being to promote Mofaya) was done in poor taste, especially when it came at the expense of this vendor.
Seemingly sensing the hostilities, Sbu retweeted a TikTok video of him being “found guilty” of his actions on Tuesday, 19 November, captioned with ANOTHER apology:
At this rate, though, folks don’t believe Sbu is genuinely sorry and are fed up with all his so-called “apologies”:
@Dr_Shiyaklenga came up with a pretty good compromise:
Pfft, as if Sbu will ever reveal that he was the man beneath Kwaito star Mzekezeke’s balaclava!
In all seriousness, though, here’s hoping that the vendor is doing okay after this incident. What’s more, we hope DJ Sbu will learn from this and use better, less humiliating marketing strategies to promote his dang drink!
